Week 32

Total weight gain/loss: -24.0
Next appointment: April 30th – this Friday!
Maternity Clothes: yep! and my mom converted a few more normal pants to put into the rotation!
Stretch Marks: Honestly, I’ve stopped looking.
Sleep: I am in a lot of pain at night – rolling over or getting up are big ordeals… I did have another baby dream the other night, this time it was a boy, and Paul wasn’t there… I had to text him to figure out what to name the baby. Like I said, wei-ird…
Belly button in/out: In
Movement: I have started doing kick counts. Some days it doesn’t even take 10 minutes to get the 10 movements… others, close to 2 hours.
Food cravings: I think Paul’s cravings are way more interesting… I haven’t been craving anything lately.
Contractions: nope
Best moment of the week: Baby shower at the Eppen’s. We got lots of great things! I can’t wait to get them all home and organized!
What I miss: sleeping
What I am looking forward to: Appointment on Friday.
Milestones: changing table is put together!

On a side note, the whole idea of giving birth is starting to freak me out. There are just so many unknowns, and I like to know what I am getting myself into. I am also curious about how Paul will react to the whole process… Yep –freaky stuff!

Baby Shower

Wow – so I am totally failing at the blogging thing! It has been a week since my last post, but being out and about every day last week didn’t help! I hope to get you all caught up on a few things today.

On Sunday, some very special friends celebrated the upcoming arrival of Baby L by gathering to host a shower for me and Baby L. There are not words to describe this group, but they have been a critical part of my life for many years. Our shared 4-H experience is what brought us all together, but amazing friendships have kept us together all these years. These are the wonderful people I spent hours at the fair with – feeding, watering, cleaning, and showing livestock, playing cards, playing tricks, talking, and laughing. We worked hard and we played hard. Our parents all became friends too. These are God’s people – always willing to lend a helping hand, celebrate with you, cry with you. I love them.

And of course I forgot to take pictures. So I had my first baby shower and have no pictures to share. Typical!

But Baby L received many great gifts! I can’t wait to get everything organized and set-up!

Speaking of getting things set-up, we had a bit of a snaff-foo with the crib! Paul opened the box to start putting it together on Saturday and the crib in the box was NOT what we had ordered! I double checked our receipt against the label on the outside of the box, but the crib inside the box was not what it was supposed to be. So I called the store and Paul had to take it back on Sunday. Now we have to wait for the new one to come in - what a hassle!

Congrats to T, R, & J as they welcome little Max Allen! He came a few weeks early, but everything looks good – can’t wait to meet him!

And a belly pic… to make up for not having any shower pics… :)

Week 31

How your baby's growing:
This week, your baby measures over 16 inches long. He weighs about 3.3 pounds (try carrying four navel oranges) and is heading into a growth spurt. He can turn his head from side to side, and his arms, legs, and body are beginning to plump out as needed fat accumulates underneath his skin. He's probably moving a lot, too, so you may have trouble sleeping because your baby's kicks and somersaults keep you up. Take comfort: All this moving is a sign that your baby is active and healthy. www.babycenter.com

Total weight gain/loss: -24.7
Next appointment: April 30th
Maternity Clothes: yeppers! So comfy…
Stretch Marks: Nothing that wasn’t there before!
Sleep: Pretty good – but the dreams are getting wei-ird…
Belly button in/out: In
Movement: all the time. I can definitely tell when Baby L is sleeping and wake. Lots of rolling and flying elbows and feet!
Food cravings: milk and I am definitely more thirsty.
Contractions: Just more Braxton-Hicks
Best moment of the week: Paul watching my stomach move one night… he was amazed.
What I miss: being as mobile as I used to be – I get tired out pretty fast.
What I am looking forward to: First baby shower on Sunday afternoon with all the 4-H ladies! Can’t wait!
Milestones: making a few more purchases!

Week 30 Check-up

I just got home from my 30-week check up. Today I was seen by Dr. Saul, the only male Ob/Gyn in Red Wing. I really liked him. So far everything is perfect, blood pressure is great, urine is clear, growth is right on track and heartbeat is normal. All good things to hear. Baby L was moving around alot when he was trying to find the heartbeat, which made me laugh... probably a sign of things to come.

My appointment was at 4:30pm. When I checked in I was roomed right away, then waited 45 minutes for the doctor to come in. One reason why I like morning appointments! I didn't have any plans, so I didn't care that much... and I got a sticker for waiting... too funny.

I am off to the Regional WELS Handbell Festival this weekend with my mom and the rest of the choir. Im sure it will be lots of fun, but a long day of ringing on my feet!

Have a great weekend! M

down in the dumps...

Wow - I have been in such a funk the last few days. It all started on Tuesday when we met with our financial advisor and discovered that some of our plans are just not going to work out. We can afford to have a baby. We can afford to buy a home. But we cannot afford to do them at the same time. I seriously cried the whole night. We have been saving like crazy for the past 3 years and have some really good money saved up, but our monthly expenses with the baby will still be more than our incomes. After scrimping for 3 years I am at a loss as to where we can continue to cut... It's just a bummer.

I didn't sleep very well last night, so I have been dragging most of the day. Add to that the fact that the office is very warm and I just had lunch. I need a nap!

My last complaint is that I am starting to feel uncomfortable. Everything hurts and is sore and I feel huge. I realize that this baby has to double in size yet before it is born, but I can already tell a difference from a week ago.

OK - enough complaining. I am going to put on a happy face now. :) ... and I will get around to that picture... sometime!

Week 30

How your baby's growing:
Your baby's about 15.7 inches long now, and she weighs almost 3 pounds (like a head of cabbage). A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds her, but that volume will decrease as she gets bigger and takes up more room in your uterus. Her eyesight continues to develop, though it's not very keen; even after she's born, she'll keep her eyes closed for a good part of the day. When she does open them, she'll respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision — which means she can only make out objects a few inches from her face. (Normal adult vision is 20/20.)

Week 30

Total weight gain/loss: -24.7
Next appointment: April 16th – this Friday!
Maternity Clothes: bottoms – 100% tops – 50%
Stretch Marks: Nothing that wasn’t there before!
Sleep: pretty good once I get comfortable enough to fall asleep.
Belly button in/out: In
Movement: Lots, and it always makes me smile.
Food cravings: milk … which reminds me that I need to get some on my way home today!
Contractions: Just more Braxton-Hicks
Best moment of the week: Being at Camp Counselor Training – I will miss camp this year… tear.
What I miss: not having heartburn
What I am looking forward to: Finding out if Baby L is a girl or a boy! …still looking forward to this and getting VERY curious!
Milestones: heartburn like none other.

Perhaps it is time for a belly pic? hmmmmm...

Holy Heartburn Batman!

Wow – what a way to start week 30! I spent the weekend sleeping on a camping cot in a cabin… not super comfortable, but I was so worn out each night from all the activity and fresh air that sleeping really wasn’t a problem! I have slept in this same cabin for a few years now at camp and appreciate the bathroom in the cabin… until this year when it wasn’t working! So off I went several times each night across camp to empty my bladder – it was a brisk walk! Regional 4-H Camp Counselor Training was a lot of fun and I am super sad that I won’t be a part of camp this year due to Baby L’s arrival. I know I will be busy with other things, but I will miss my favorite activity of the 4-H year.

Heartburn is crazy! I have never had heartburn before, but now it happens on a daily, sometimes more than once, basis. Tums have become my friend! It doesn’t really matter what I eat either, I think it is just food in general since my stomach is getting squished into a smaller size. It hasn’t kept me up at night or anything, but it is annoying.

70 days until our due date… that is just insane! I cannot believe that Baby L is already about 3 pounds in there, although I can feel the weight more and more each day. Getting comfortable to sleep is getting harder and harder, but when sleep comes it is good.

We continue the house hunt. We looked at one yesterday in Mazeppa that was a very nice house, just too small. I actually asked, “where’s the rest of it?” We are going with our realtor on Wednesday to look at a few more. Paul is also rethinking the one in rural Lake City that we looked at this winter that is still on the market. It might be worth it to go look again now that all the snow is gone.

Week 30 update coming up!

Week 29

How your baby's growing:
Your baby now weighs about 2 1/2 pounds (like a butternut squash) and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. His muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and his head is growing bigger to make room for his developing brain. To meet his increasing nutritional demands, you'll need plenty of protein, vitamins C, folic acid, and iron. And because his bones are soaking up lots of calcium, be sure to drink your milk (or find another good source of calcium, such as cheese, yogurt, or enriched orange juice). This trimester, about 250 milligrams of calcium are deposited in your baby's hardening skeleton each day.

Total weight gain/loss: -26.1 (I weighed EXACTLY the same at this appointment as I did at my last)
Next appointment: April 16th
Maternity Clothes: yeppers!
Stretch Marks: Nothing that wasn’t there before!
Sleep: The cool air coming the open windows at night has made sleeping so much better! Even is Paul says he is freezing… I am sleeping wonderfully!
Belly button in/out: In
Movement: I can feel kicking now in response to sounds – like if I put the laptop on my legs and turn on music, Baby L starts moving around.
Food cravings: milk
Contractions: Just more Braxton-Hicks
Best moment of the week: Spending time with family for Easter
What I miss: drinking wine at Easter dinner with everyone else.
What I am looking forward to: Finding out if Baby L is a girl or a boy!
Milestones: nothing this week that I can think of…

He is Risen! Alleluia! Happy Easter!

Oh how I love Easter! The amazing news that Christ is risen and will raise us all on the last day is so comforting and fills me with peace. I hope all of you had a blessed Easter as well!

My Easter weekend started with my 28 week appointment on Friday afternoon. Honestly, these appointments seem like such a waste of time... 45 minute drive to Red Wing, 5 minute appointment, 45 minute drive home. It is reassuring to hear Baby L's heartbeat and have any questions answered, but it makes for a long day. How many more of these before they start getting more exciting?

Friday night we attended the Good Friday service at our church and then had an impromptu supper of pizza at Carrie and Perry's. My 18 month old nephew Chase kept us all entertained!

Saturday we headed to Zumbrota early to prep Easter breakfast with the Luther Leaguers. They were good help and we got everything done. Then it was off to have lunch with 2 of my best friends, Sarah and Lisa. It was so good to catch up on what everyone is up to and just laugh. I lived with these fine ladies for so many years, (Lisa - 5, Sarah - 2) it is hard not having them just down the hall to talk to!

I had my first delivery dream on Saturday night. Baby L came out a girl! We will see what this means for the future!

Happy Easter everyone! M
