Baby Book Library

I have a small collection of baby books. My collection includes:

What to Expect When You Are Expecting
What to Expect the First Year
Baby Bargains
Baby Lists

So for those moms out there that are reading this, what other books do you recommend? It is so overwhelming when I go on amazon.com... it's hard to weed out what is worth reading and what is not. Comment, email, or facebook me with your recommendations! Thanks guys!

I also made another purchase today... a body pillow. Sleeping is starting to become more uncomfortable, so I was willing to give almost anything a try if it meant I wouldn't wake up feeling like I am 80 years old! You wouldn't believe how hard body pillows are to find though. I ended up finding one at Target. Tonight will be the first night, I'll let you know how it goes!

I think Baby L might be on a trampoline in there! The activity the last few days has been crazy, almost non-stop! ...until Paul tries to feel it! He has yet to get in on the action, but I'm sure that will happen soon enough!

Have a great weekend! M

Baby Fever

My pregnancy-friend here at work had her baby last night! Congrats A & C on little Brooks Barry! So many friends are having their babies right now - I love looking through the baby pictures on facebook. It makes me so excited for June when we will get to hold Baby L. But I know we have a lot to do before then. So I will give my baby belly a little rub and continue to wait patiently!

Today...

I found this cute survey at Miss Messi's blog and thought I would play along :)

Outside my window... I used to be able to watch yoga in the building across the street on gloomy days.
The time is... 3:44pm
Today I feel... the baby going crazy busy in there!
I am thinking... only 15 more minutes until I get to go home!
At the moment, I am thankful... that I have been able to talk out my feelings about something that has been bothering me at work.
I am going... to bell choir practice tonight!
I am wearing... super comfy dressy slacks and one of my fav green sweaters
I wish... I was at home snuggling with Paul and the kitties
I am reading... Friday Night Knitting Club
I am working on... a powerpoint for my class final project
I am hoping... for a healthy baby
I am hearing... music floating over from Martha's cube
I bet you didn't know... that I was a cheerleader in high school
One of my favorite... ways to relax is with a hot bath.

Join the Fun! Copy & Paste and fill it out on your blog! If you do this make sure you comment so I can check yours out!

A Busy Weekend

Hello Monday!

It was a busy weekend for us! Friday morning started out bright and early with our OB appointment and 22-week ultrasound. It was so amazing to see Baby L and hear that little heartbeat! Baby had both arms over his/her head and waved at us. S/he even stuck their tongue out at us! How precious! Everything looked good – normal. 4 chambers of the heart, 3 cord arteries, normal arms and legs – we feel so blessed that Baby L is, by all appearances, healthy! We held strong and didn’t find out whether Baby L will be sporting pink or blue. Our ultrasound took extra long because a medical student was observing and took the opportunity to practice taking a few measurements. I was absolutely fine with that – everyone has to learn somehow, and it just gave Paul and I more time to see Baby L!
After our appointment we headed to Target to waste time before lunch. We strolled through the baby aisles, checking out options and prices. I think it was a little overwhelming, or boring, for Paul as soon he wondered off to look at clothes. I also made my FIRST baby purchase – a diaper bag! It isn’t really a diaper bag, it is messenger-style piece of luggage. But it met my diaper bag criteria: it is roomy, has lots of pockets, isn’t strictly bor or girl, isn’t screaming BABY, and is manly enough that Paul can carry it too. And it is my favorite color – GREEN! I can’t wait to fill it with baby things for when we bring home Baby L!
Paul surprised me by suggesting my favorite restaurant for lunch, Fiesta Mexicana! What a sweetie!

We needed to stop in Zumbrota to pick up a prescription refill for me, so he suggested we take a swing through the Grover Auto lot. Paul’s car has been on the fritz for a while, and the fixes are expensive, so we have been talking about a new vehicle for him for awhile. We test drove a few, but didn’t find what we were looking for within our price range. Gary at the dealership said he would keep his eyes out for us. On a whim, we headed to Rochester to look too, since Paul has purchased his previous cars at a dealership there. We were able to find a used Acadia that fit our needs and budget. Since we were trading in Paul’s car, and didn’t have it with us, we made a deposit on the vehicle and an appointment to come back on Saturday to finish the paperwork.
Saturday morning we drove to Rochester and finalized the big purchase! It will be a good vehicle for both of us to enjoy, although it will primarily be Paul’s car.

Next we headed to Mazeppa to celebrate the life of a good friend of ours that passed away a few years ago. The “Bubba Walk” is a fundraiser that includes snow games at the park, like frozen turkey bowling, tennis golf, smoosh races, and sledding, and a pub crawl. It ends up with a supper and auction at a local sports bar. This was the first year we have been able to make it, as we always had something else going on in the past. It was a lot of fun – so great to see so many friends and catch up. And the weather was BEAUTIFUL!! Couldn’t have asked for better!

Sunday we went to church and then stopped by mom and dad’s for lunch as usual. Carrie, Perry, and the boys were there too – we LOVE spending time with them!

It was a busy weekend, but we are so grateful for the time to spend with family and friends!

Looks Iike a miniature newborn

"At 11 inches, (the length of a spaghetti squash) and almost 1 pound, your baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. At 22 weeks gestation babies are capable of fine hand and finger movements. In a short space of time this baby scratches, rubs and pats his cheek before doing the same to his nose. She can now perceive light and dark. She can also hear your voice, your heartbeat, your gurgling stomach, and the whoosh-whoosh of blood circulating through your body. Your baby can now hear your conversations more clearly than before! When you talk, read, or sing, expect her to hear you. Studies have found that newborns will suck more vigorously when read to them from a book they heard frequently in utero. " www.thebump.com

The "Lucky" Onesie

Here is the story of the “Lucky” Onesie-

Way back in September, my sister (who has 2 adorable boys), and 2 of her friends (also mothers of adorable children) decided to have a garage sale to purge their stock of baby clothes. One friend knew that she would be busy that weekend and not able to help with the set-up. The other delivered a beautiful baby boy the day before the garage sale, so needless to say, she was not able to help either. I volunteered to help my sister set-up for the garage sale and also had a few items of my own to contribute. While helping to put out all the clothes, I fell in love with one particular onesie. It was so tiny and I loved the colors! No pastels! But since I had no plans for children anytime in the near future, I knew it would be pointless to make the onsie my own. I did, however, tell my sister how much I loved it and that it was my favorite item of the whole sale! (and there were LOTS of cute things!)

I was taking our church youth group to ValleyFair the day of the sale, so I dropped by later in the afternoon to pick up my items that had not sold. On top of my box was the onesie - apparently no one else shopping at the sale had fallen as in love with it as I had. While packing up, my sister had saved it out for me. I took it home, but had no idea what to do with it, so threw it over the mirror in our bedroom until I could pack it away.

Sometime in the next 2 weeks Baby L was conceived.

And since the onesie is obviously for a girl… you know we are going to have a boy!

Anyone else need some luck? I am willing to share it!

Week 21

Total weight gain/loss: -26.5
Next appointment: February 19 - ultrasound!
Maternity Clothes: The stash has grown to the point of where I am wearing maternity or maternity-esque pants everyday. Still wearing all pre-pregnancy shirts with long camis underneath.
Stretch Marks: nope
Sleep: not great, but not bad either. I get my best sleep on mornings when I can sleep in… I have been known to sleep until 9:30 – 10:00am if left alone!
Belly button in/out: In
Movement: yep – it’s not regular, but I am definitely feeling kicks and movement.
Food cravings: milk… still milk.
Contractions: nope
Best moment of the week: Shopping with mom and Carrie in the cities this weekend!
What I miss: being able to do whatever I wanted without questioning, “should I be doing this?”
What I am looking forward to: making some decisions about things we want and registering.
Milestones: Belly rubbed twice by others. Not strangers, but not family either.

Baby is the length of a banana this week! Baby's digestive system is busy creating meconium (a tarry black substance made of swallowed amniotic fluid, digestive secretion, and dead cells), which will fill the first diaper after birth. And, if baby is a girl, her womb is now stocked up with her lifetime supply of six million eggs (the number will drop to around one million by birth).

We Have Movement

Yes - I'm now sure that is what I am feeling! and it feels great! What a great little reminder that Baby L is there... and already telling me what to do! Last night I rolled on to my tummy to sleep. Shortly after I felt 4 distinct little pops in the same place. It was like Baby L was saying, "Get off me!" I was happy to oblige! Today I am feeling those same pops all the time. However, the thought that there is a little person growing inside there is, well, weird! But it makes me smile all the same!

I have chili on the stove, corn muffins in the oven, and I made an apple crisp for supper tonight. This is the first time I have cooked in 21 weeks - seriously! Paul has been such a trooper fending for himself and making meals. I'm glad I'm starting to feel more like myself - at least for a little while!

Weekend Recap

Sorry it has been so long since my last post! My laptop is currently in the shop, so my access to internet over the weekend was limited. But I have lots to report on... so keep reading!

I have been touched. My first belly rub happened on Wednesday night at bell choir. The second time happened on Sunday night by one of the youth group kids. It's weird... but I supposed something I will need to get used to!

On Saturday, Feb 6th, my mom, sister, and I made the trip to Bellies to Babies in Richfield. http://www.belliestobabies.net/stobabies.net/. This store features slightly used maternity clothes, baby clothes, and pregnancy books. One of my readers, Carrie, had suggested I stop by there and see what they had to offer. So we did. The atmosphere was great and the staff was very helpful. It was a bit smaller than I had expected, but very cozy, clean, and well decorated. The dressing rooms were spacious and well lit. If you wear a size S-L, you would be able to complete your entire wardrobe very easily here! Since I fit into the plus size catagory, there were less options. I tried on everything my mom and Carrie (my sister) threw at me and we definitely had some good laughs! I walked away with one pair of jeans and a top for $15. Here are some pics from their website:

Our next stop was IKEA, since Carrie had never been there. So many cute baby/kid things, but I still am not in the buying mood. On a whim, we pulled into a Goodwill store. I was able to find 3 pairs of pants (2 khakis, 1 jeans) that I plan to retro-fit into maternity pants. I will let you know how this goes... It was so much fun hanging out with my mom and sister for the whole day - thanks ladies for coming with!

Are mangos and cantaloupes comparable in size?

Baby's now the size of a cantaloupe! Baby gulps down several ounces of amniotic fluid every day, both for nutrition and to practice swallowing and digesting. And, these days, those taste buds actually work! Studies show that after birth, babies respond best to tastes they've already had via amniotic fluid. Meaning, think about what you'd like your future child to eat as you prepare your own lunch.

from www.thebump.com

From a mango to a cantaloupe?!? I know I haven't seen a ton of mangos in my life, but are they really that big? or maybe the cantaloupes we eat here in Minnesota are super big? hmmm... interesting...

Another milestone - received my first baby magazine yesterday! First issue on American Baby made it's way to our mailbox - seems like I requested it FOREVER ago! Haven't read much yet... hoping to break into it during lunch break today. So much homework reading to do lately there hasn't been much time for "fun" reading!

I am REALLY looking forward to going shopping at Bellies to Babies in the cities with my mom and sister this weekend. I hope I'm not getting my hopes up that I will find some decent pants to wear there. Not that the pants I already own aren't decent... but I have discovered the maternity jeans I ordered are a "wear once and wash" pair. The are a little big to start with, but the butt gets SUPER baggy by the second wearing... oh well - at least they are comfortable!
