The stash is growing!

I picked up another pair of maternity pants on Friday at Phenomenal Woman in Zumbrota. That is a consignment shop, so their selection was pretty limited. I found a pair of casual khakis that will work to wear to work. They were a bit short, so I let out the hem and washed them. Still a tad on the short side, but they will be OK with flat shoes.

I also started a new knitting project - a baby sweater! although... judging from the size of it at this point, it might be more like a toddler sweater! It is green - grass green! I will post pics when I finish. I have the yoke done and am to the point where I will be adding sleeves!

20 weeks tomorrow - where has the time gone?!?

My first pair of maternity pants came! and the verdict is... not bad! They fit, look decent, and are comfortable. I may even try to pull off a casual Friday tomorrow... on Thursday! hehe...

On a good note...

My skin has cleared up considerably! It feels much softer and smoother too. And by skin I mean my face... everything else is dry, flaky, and itchy. I need to be better about lotion!

Also, my leg hair is growing out of control! I used to be able to go weeks without needing to shave, there was hardly any stuble. But now- look out! I shaved last Monday and already my legs look like a monkey! Gotta love hormones! I would post a pic... but that's just gross. :)

Week 19

Baby's now the size of a mango! Vernix caseosa, a greasy white substance made of lanugo, oil, and dead skin cells (yum) now coats baby's skin, shielding it from the amniotic fluid. (Picture yourself after a nine-month bath, and the need for protection makes sense.) You might get to see the vernix at birth, especially if baby is premature.

Studious Mama

I start class again tonight. For those of you who don't know, I have been pursuing my Masters of Education at the University of Minnesota since the summer of '08. A year and a half later, I am soooo close to being done! I have always enjoyed school, so when the opportunity arose to get my masters I took it. Since I work for the U, they pay a good chunk of my tuition, which means I have been able to do this without:
A. taking out any loans
B. living on Ramen
So it has been a good option - and tonight I start my spring class. So what makes this pregnancy related? I'm not going to finish in the time frame I had planned. Boo. My plan was to graduate this spring and then finish up my last 2 classes over the summer. But with Baby L due in June, summer classes aren't going to happen. So next winter looks like the earliest I will finish - and I WANT to finish! ...but the break will be nice too! hehe :)

Another reason why this is pregnancy related? "Pregnancy Brain" has struck! When I went in this morning to pay my tuition, I was shocked to find the full amount listed on my account! I never filled out my Regent's Scholarship application for this semester!! DUH MAMIE!! So I did it this morning, and it will be a little late... hopefully they are a little lenient with that! aagghhh!

It's a sign...

I have to look presentable at work. This means no jeans, unless I am working with kids, or cleaning the storeroom or something like that. So I wear khakis - comfortable and not super dressy (although, I have my super dressy days too!). I own 2 pairs of khakis that currently fit. I just discovered a hole in one of them... so now I am down to 1 pair of khakis that fit. I guess this is a sign I need to buy some maternity pants. I just wish they weren't so expensive! Oh well... off to check out www.motherhood.com. Maybe they are having a sale?!?

Sweet Potato?

"Baby's now the size of a sweet potato! Baby's become amazingly mobile (compared to you, at least), passing the hours yawning, hiccupping, rolling, twisting, kicking, punching, sucking, and swallowing. And baby is finally big enough that you'll soon be able to feel her movements."
Not exactly the cutest picture... a sweet potato? Really bump? That is the best you could do? Oh well, at least I only have to live with it for a week! :)
We had another doctors appointment yesterday. Once again heard the amazing swish-swish-swish! This was Paul's first time - he had the best smile on his face! Doctor said the baby was moving around quite a bit, so it took a little while to find it, but then there it was - strong as ever! 150 bpm which is normal. They are a little concerned that I am still losing weight and not gaining. I told her I have a little extra! I guess I have to try harder to get more calories a day! Next appointment we will have the big ultrasound - which will be our second. Still not completely decided on whether or not we will find out if it is a boy or girl, but definitely leaning toward not finding out. Who knows though what will happen when we are actually in the room that day! ETA: we also stopped down and said hi to my wonderful sister who works in surgery at Fairview. It was so great to see her - all dressed up in her scrubs! I miss living close!
This weekend we attended the Federation of County Fairs Convention in the cities. This is basically a convention for all the county fairboards across the state to get together to learn, share, book entertainment, and socialize with other "fair people". It is always a lot of fun, but SO tiring! Lots of late nights and early mornings equal a rather crabby Mamie. It was good to not have to work on Monday so I could recoup!

Diapers

Did you know that, on average, a baby goes through 6,000 diaper changes before they are potty-trained? I'm sure all those already-mothers knew this... but holy cow! I did some research - the average diaper costs $.30. That's over $1800 in diapers!! Why am I bringing this up? Because I am genuinely interested in cloth diapering. I realize the initial investment is quite a bit, but it's definitely less than $1800! I like the idea of the one-size that grow with baby using snaps. Then you really only have to buy once, instead of at each stage as the baby grows. There are so many out there to choose from too! I am most interested in Bum Genius and gDiapers. Both have separate liners that you pull out to wash or liners that can just be thrown or flushed. Am I super enthused about cleaning poo out of them all the time? No - but you do what you gotta do! Thanks to tank sprayers this has been made alot easier.

Hmmm.... the research continues...

It's Not Real Yet

I don't "feel" pregnant. Not that I have any idea what being pregnant is supposed to feel like... but at this point I don't feel much different than I did 16 weeks ago. The nausea is gone (thankfully!), I'm not showing, there is no movement yet, sleeping is going better, and I'm not peeing every 10 minutes. I realize that I should be thankful for this all, but I don't "feel" pregnant! I guess I am just really looking forward to feeling this little guy or gal inside of me. I am, however, keenly aware of all the things I CAN'T do!

We looked at a house yesterday. It has potential - I am in LOVE with the master bedroom, master bath (jacuzzi tub!), and walk-in closet! But really the whole house has a lot of potential. Paul is not thrilled with the outbuildings, so we'll see.

Suspenders

I think I may need to invest in some suspenders! Wearing a belt is VERY uncomfortable, but my pants keep falling down! The worst is when I am walking somewhere and my hands are full, which doesn't allow me to give a needed tug. I'm sure this is a good thing... but it is still annoying!

After months of avoiding it, my body has succombed to a cold. It started about a week ago, and over the weekend I was averaging a box of kleenex a day. Now I'm mostly just stuffy, but I'm sure my cube mates are getting tired of hearing me blow my nose! Speaking of my poor nose, it is completely rubbed raw... I feel like I have a sunburn. (kinda looks like I do too!) I have been doing all the "natural" remedies I can think of - orange juice (by the gallon), chicken noodle soup, breathing in the vapors of vicks in boiling water... only time will tell if any of it has worked! In the mean time I'll keep plugging along... sniff...sniff...

Tummy has seemed to settle down a bit. I'm not really feeling nauseous anymore, but not hungry either. I think that might have something to do with the cold. It is welcome relief.

We have started thinking about names... of course, these will remain a secret... just wanted to let you know that we are thinking about it :)
